About
BPC-157 is a synthetic pentadecapeptide whose sequence corresponds to a fragment of body protection compound, a protein isolated from human gastric juice. It has become one of the most widely referenced compounds in preclinical tissue-repair literature, largely because of the breadth of models it has been examined in — tendon, muscle, bone, and intestinal tissue among them. It is supplied as a lyophilised powder and is handled as a research reference material. Regulatory status varies by jurisdiction.
Mechanism
Published preclinical work associates BPC-157 with the nitric oxide signalling pathway and with upregulation of vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR2). Investigators have described effects on fibroblast migration and on the formation of new blood vessels in injured tissue, processes that are central to how connective tissue reorganises after damage. Additional reports discuss interaction with growth hormone receptor expression in tendon fibroblasts. The mechanistic picture remains incomplete: most of this work is in animal or cell-culture models, and the pathways described are inferred from those systems rather than established in humans.
What research has examined
The literature has examined BPC-157 primarily in rodent models of tendon, ligament, muscle and gastrointestinal injury. Human clinical data remains limited.
